Words can’t express what you mean to me

Some people are telling me that because my dad wasn’t “my dad”, I should not be so broken up about his passing.

I have to wonder what kind of serious abuse of spirit those people had in their lives, that makes them so mean, and crass about human life. Sure, he was my “father inlaw” but, where is it written that I could not love and care for him as my father? A father figure that almost 20 years ago, and before, I seriously lacked? A man whose family “saved” me?

Without his influence, I would not be the person I am today.

Do you have any idea how it feels, to feel lost? Knowing there is someone out there, that is a “family member” but, knowing they “chose” not to be in your life? Now imagine, this family, that although you may have had a rough start, accepts you into their fold, and starts to fix the broken parts in your life… Things that were broken long before that past “family member” decided you were not worth their time, and this man and his family, work together to show you, that you are worthy of love. Worthy to be treated as a human.

Now that you know this… can you really say, I should not feel the loss as much as I do?

I have a song dedication to my father in-law. To Dad.

I hope, wherever he is, he hears it somehow.
